Okay I Believe You But My Tommy Gun Don’t | Brand New
I think in decimals and dollars.
I am the cause of your problems, shelter from the cold.
We’re never alone, coordinate brain and mouth.
Then ask me what it’s like to have myself so figured out.
I wish I knew.
“You sure you want them? I might start crying again…” Jac joked nervously. Testing a few keys and reading the music Seth said to Jac, “If you’re lucky, i might start too.” Jac giggled at that and began to play her guitar. Seth tapping his foot in time, began to play along. This is nice Seth though, he’d never ‘jammed’ with someone before, except for the school band members. ”Now I’m falling asleep, asleep at the wheel, driving. I guess I’m dreaming of you, you’re haunting me still.” Jac Began to sing. Seth smiled gently, feeling the tears rising to his eyes. ”So I guess I’ll stay at the heartache hotel, the cost’s always cheap and the hurt never fails.” Feeling the song, Seth began to sing along as well, harmonising with Jac. “I check my self in, the walls they cave in, they’re singing your song. I don’t even miss you not for one second I’m not looking back, no California reminds me of you so I’ll keep driving. I don’t even miss you, no not those pretty eyes or perfect lips no, why can’t I just stop? Stop, just stop. Just stop.” After the last lines, both musicians stopped and sat in silence. Seth had his back to Jac, and he was thankful for that, as she couldnt see his tears rolling down his cheeks. The song reminded him of his little sister. A story which he never told anyone. After a while of silence, seth wiped his face with his sleeve and said “Thank-you”.
Seth cracked a joke right back at her, grinning. “If you’re lucky, I might start too.” Jac giggled at the joke, and began to play her guitar, Seth joining in a few seconds later with his piano. She smiled at the sound. She never imagined that she would ever show the song she had written so many years ago to people. She was just glad it was Seth, though. “Now I’m falling asleep, asleep at the wheel, driving. I guess I’m dreaming of you, you’re haunting me still.” Jac felt the lump in her throat come again, and she closed her eyes, trying to block out the thoughts of what she thought her mother would be like. “So I guess I’ll stay at the heartache hotel, the cost’s always cheap and the hurt never fails.” Seth then joined in, harmonizing alongside with Jac, and she began to smile at his voice, a distraction which she gladly took. Just stop.” The song ended on a sorrowful note, both musicians stopping and staring at the walls, thinking of what had caused them to cry for a moment. Seth had his back to Jac, but she could hear him sniffling. She got up from her seat, and patted his back, trying to comfort him. After a few moments of silence, Seth wiped his face with his sleeve, saying, “Thank you.”
Jac gave him a both happy and sad smile. “I’ve never sang that song to someone, and I feel so much better now that I have. I should be thanking you!” she laughed out. She held out a hand to him, hoping he would grab it and follow. “Well, even though we know enough about each other to do a duet, I’d still like to know more. You want to hang out somewhere?” She asked with a shy, hesitant smile.

Seth stood in the doorway gazing at the person on the Guitar. Quickly he wiped his watery eyes and said, “That was beautiful…” He smiled at her. Near by on the upright piano was a tissue box and he brought them over to young girl before asking; “Did you write that?” He repeated, “Its beautiful…”. Seth Couldnt imagine what emotion was behind that song, so strong that the girl ended up crying, that almost made Seth teary. Maybe it was to do with the reason why She was here at Dalgaard. Maybe she was just having an off day. Finally seth came to a conclusion- he grinned at her and stuck out his hand, “I’m Seth.” He said when she shook it, “I’m pretty sure i’ve seen you around before… in the school band maybe? You’re a sophomore yeah?”. Seth stood and walked over to the piano and opened it. “If you tell me the chords, i could try to join in with you?”.
Jac looked at the ground, playing with her thumbs as she answered him. “Um, thanks, I guess. I wrote it about my mom. ‘Cause, you know, I never got to know her.” Jac looked at the boy again, and breathed out a shaky, nervous laugh. “Wow, sorry. I don’t even know you and I’m dumping all my problems on you like you’re my therapist.” She took a tissue from the tissue box he had brought over, and wiped the upcoming tears again. The boy grinned at her, introducing himself. I’m Seth.” He said when Jac took his hand, gingerly shaking it. “I’m pretty sure I’ve seen you around before… in the school band maybe? You’re a sophomore yeah?” Jac grinned at that, wondering how he had noticed her and how she hadn’t done the latter. Probably the pink hair, she thought to herself, and Jac began to grin. “Yeah. And I’m Jac, nice to meet you.” she said, biting her lip while smiling even wider. Seth then walked over to the piano, opening it and asking for the chords. Jac grabbed the sheet on where she had written the chords, hesitating for a moment. “You sure you want them? I might start crying again…” She joked nervously.

Jac stealthily snuck into the music room, hesitating for a moment to checking if it was empty before entering it. She then sat down, taking in her surroundings before picking up a guitar that had been left on the ground. Jac was a bit pissed and everything, to be honest, but didn’t everyone have those days? She took a deep breath before playing a familiar melody, the song that had got her throughout all these years. AS she strummed on the strings, her worries began to melt away, and Jac disappeared into her own little world. After a while of just listening to the melody, she began to get bored, subconsciously beginning to sing along to the melody. ”Now I’m falling asleep, asleep at the wheel, driving. I guess I’m dreaming of you, you’re haunting me still. So I guess I’ll stay at the heartache hotel, the cost’s always cheap and the hurt never fails. I check my self in, the walls they cave in, they’re singing your song. I don’t even miss you not for one second I’m not looking back, no California reminds me of you so I’ll keep driving. I don’t even miss you, no not those pretty eyes or perfect lips no, why can’t I just stop? Stop, just stop. Just stop.” She sang, and stopped playing as soon she ended the song. Jac didn’t even realize she had been crying until she felt them on her face, and sighed, wiping them off her face. She jumped when she suddenly heard applause echoing in the room, and quickly turned around.
Alright. Let’s say I believe you for now. You said you were in one of my classes, which one is it then?
You should believe me because I’m not lying! And I’m in your power control class. Seriously, please don’t make it more awkward than it needs to be…
